Behind the Studio

Hi, I'm Ying, the designer behind Mooncord Studio.

Most of my pieces begin here — at my work table, surrounded by pearls, wire, tools, and small details waiting to become something beautiful.

Based in Pittsburgh, I design and create freshwater pearl jewelry with a focus on quiet elegance, natural texture, and organic forms. What began as a love for pearls has slowly become a personal creative practice, shaped by light, movement, and the beauty of materials that are never exactly the same.

Mooncord began on Etsy in 2020. Since then, more than 12,000 pieces have made their way from this table to people around the world — a trust I've never taken for granted, reflected in six years of 4.9-star reviews and a Star Seller rating held every month since the program began. It's what allows me to keep working the way I do: slowly, carefully, and by hand.

Over the years, my eye has changed. I used to be drawn mostly to soft colors, sparkle, and delicate feminine details. Now, I find myself especially moved by pieces with depth — unusual pearl shapes, sculptural lines, subtle irregularities, and materials that carry a sense of story.

What I love most about natural materials is their quiet individuality. A pearl may hold a soft glow; a stone may carry layers, lines, or colors shaped over time. Some materials feel delicate and luminous, while others feel sculptural, earthy, or quietly unexpected. To me, these variations are not flaws. They are character.

When I design, I'm not trying to create jewelry that overwhelms. I'm drawn to pieces that feel refined but natural, elegant but not distant — jewelry that can become part of someone's everyday life while still carrying a little sense of wonder.

Each piece is shaped through small decisions: the curve of a pearl, the balance of a strand, the way light moves across a surface. My work is slow, intuitive, and deeply connected to the materials in front of me.

Mooncord Studio is my way of sharing that quiet beauty with others. Thank you for being here, and for seeing the care behind each piece.
